I don't know if you noticed, but I said at the beginning - April 27 was my birthday. On this day in 1986 I came to work – to my Institute, department of recoveries – in good humour, because I turned 23 years old. I was in high spirits, cheerful mind, full of anticipation of good happy life ahead. My colleagues congratulated me, and by the end of the day we were informed there had been an explosion at one block of Chernobyl APS. (…) At that moment I didn't quite take in the news: I was in high spirits, it was my birthday. Well, something exploded – so what?..And then again, they didn't say “exploded”, but “emergency”, “breakdown”. What kind of breakdown? How severe? God knows what could happen, may be, something unimportant, something quite repairable...
